Like other regions of the world, the Arab world is facing an urgent need to modernize its archival practices in response to new technological requirements and the profound transformations of the information society.
Indeed, the digitization of archives is seen not only as a means of preserving the collective memory, but also as a vector for cultural development, openness and the democratization of access to information. However, the road to effective and inclusive management of digital archives in this region is not without obstacles, be they technological, financial, legislative or institutional.
This book, the fruit of the work and discussions of the second meeting “Digital Archiving in the Arab world” offers a detailed overview of the advances and challenges faced by Arab countries in this field. It presents a variety of case studies, national and international initiatives, as well as proposals for strategies adapted to local specificities. The contributions gathered here provide a better understanding of the diversity of approaches and solutions envisaged to guarantee the durability and accessibility of digital archives in a globalized context.
